Modeling of Competitive Flow in Aortofemoral Bypass

چکیده

Competitive flow places surgical bypasses at risk for thrombosis in certain vascular beds, such as coronary bypass. However, the anatomic configurations that may lead to stagnation aortofemoral bypass remain poorly characterized. We aimed model competitive and determine parameters placing patency risk. created an dynamics computer using MATLAB software (MathWorks). Our standard (Fig 1) included a native iliac artery of 8 mm diameter with patent superficial femoral (SFA, 6 mm) profunda femoris (4 outflow conduit (8 positioned over artery. Models stenosis ranging from 0% 100% across four time points throughout arterial impulse cycle. Sensitivity analyses were performed SFA occlusion well varying graft diameters. total 40 models. Fig 2 shows our base increasing severity stenosis. As increases, arrives more briskly. With little or no stenosis, limb is delayed, but does not occur shown by aqua coloration moving through points. demonstrated similar findings. No portending high thrombosis. Computer modeling did demonstrate range configurations. models suggest put thrombosis.Fig 2Flow overlying inflow impulse.View Large Image Figure ViewerDownload Hi-res image Download (PPT)

Postoperative thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura after aortofemoral bypass

Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) is uncommon in the postoperative setting, even more so after vascular surgery. We present a case of thrombocytopenia after aortofemoral bypass, which highlights the importance of a high index of suspicion for postoperative TTP to avoid life-threatening consequences.

Long-term outcome of aortofemoral bypass for aortoiliac occlusive disease.

INTRODUCTION Revascularisation of aortoiliac occlusive disease has been evolving in the past 2 decades. The present study was undertaken to evaluate the long-term outcomes of aortofemoral bypass for aortoiliac occlusive disease at a tertiary vascular disease centre in Hong Kong. MATERIALS AND METHODS A retrospective analysis of 94 patients (176 limbs) who survived aortofemoral bypass was perf...

Coronary artery bypass graft patency and competitive flow.

ver since the observation by Loop et al. (1) that internal horacic arteries (ITA) are more effective coronary artery ypass grafts than saphenous veins in prolonging patient urvival and preventing recurrent ischemic events, cardiohoracic surgeons have tried to improve the results of urgical revascularization by using other arteries as bypass onduits, such as the gastroepiploic, radial, and infer...

Early Experiences of Laparoscopic Aortofemoral Bypass in Korea-report from a Single Center.

Although endovascular approach can be widely applied to occlusive aortoiliac segment, aortofemoral bypass (AFB) continues to offer superior long term patency. In an effort to reduce the morbidity of AFB, LAFB (laparoscopic AFB) has been developed. We report our initial experiences to determine the feasibility and safety. From September 2005 to May 2008, LAFB was performed in 12 patients. A tran...

Aortofemoral thromboendarterectomy.

PURPOSE To study whether endarterectomy is feasible in all patients with aortofemoral atherosclerotic obstruction, considering early and late results. METHODS A clinical, prospective, and descriptive study carried out in a university hospital. Inclusion criteria were atherosclerotic aortofemoral obstructive disease, clinical status compatible with major surgery, and absence of prior restorati...
